ADDICTED TO A HOSTESS Written by RJ Sinclair 1. INT. ART GALLERY CAFE - LATE AFTERNOON Soft light. Everything is perfectly arranged, deliberate. He sits across from Maya. She watches him. HIM Six years. Every week. He smiles, slightly proud almost. MAYA (V.O.) Six years? Why is he not embarrassed by that? HIM She inspired this whole place. He gestures lightly around them. Maya follows the gesture but her eyes come back to him. MAYA Did she ever see it? A pause. HIM No. Silence. MAYA (V.O.) As if the absence is the point. He reaches for his coffee, calm, composed. Maya sits back slightly. MAYA (V.O.) Some men don't fall in love with women... Faint smile looking at him. MAYA (CONT'D V.O.) They fall in love with the story. 2. EXT. TOKYO STREET - MORNING RUSH Maya is making her way through crowds of people, carrying a satchel. MAYA (V.O.) A man searching for a tragic love story where he plays the leading role. 3. INT. FILM PRODUCTION OFFICE - DAYTIME Maya stands in the doorway of her bosses office. MAYA Hear me out. A geisha. A man falls in love with her. Obsessively. But he can't have her. The boss leans back slightly. BOSS Of course he can't. Maya steps inside his office. MAYA Then he meets someone new, someone amazing and real. They try to make it work. BOSS And.. MAYA He can't choose her. BOSS Because of the geisha. Maya tilts her head, almost. MAYA Because of what she represents. Bosses brows furrow. Something clicks but not fully. BOSS So he loses both. MAYA Or... he gets to keep the story. The boss exhales, half a laugh but thoughtful. BOSS That's... bleak. MAYA It's accurate. She smirks. MAYA (CONT'D) And the twist is... She looks at him with intensity. MAYA (CONT'D) He thinks he's dealing with two different women... She lets it hang. Silence. The boss is processing. BOSS ...Ohhh. He leans back and puts his hand to his chin. It lands. BOSS (CONT'D) (quiet, impressed) Right... Yeah... That's good. He looks at Maya. BOSS (CONT'D) Where do you get these ideas? Maya gives a small, contained smile. MAYA They just seem to, come to me. 4. INT. LIVING ROOM - EVENING Maya and her sister are sitting on the floor eating cup noodles on the low coffee table. A dog rests beside Maya. She strokes him absently. SISTER A hostess?! Doesn't he know that they lie for a living? MAYA He knows. Sister slurping noodles. SISTER And he still...? Maya nods once. Silence. The sister exhales. SISTER (CONT'D) God. Maya looks down at the dog. MAYA Shall we go for a walk, Poochy? She puts the collar on, then pauses. Something registers. MAYA (CONT'D) This relationship... [CLICK] ...just won't be tragic enough for him. Silence. She stands. The dog follows. They step out into the night. Outro music
